How many new pulp and paper projects were launched and invested in domestically in May 2024?

According to information from Paperinsight (www.paperinsight.net), recent statistics compiled by Paperinsight’s editors show that in May 2024, four domestic pulp and paper enterprises launched a total of four new paper machine production lines. Additionally, eight pulp and paper enterprises have invested in new pulp and paper projects, covering product categories such as household paper, specialty paper, and packaging paper.

Additionally, eight pulp and paper enterprises have invested in new pulp and paper projects, covering product categories such as household paper, specialty paper, and packaging paper.
1. Power on
On May 9, the TM58 paper machine at Taisheng Group’s Hubei base was successfully started up, producing paper and completing the winding process smoothly. The machine has a net paper width of 2,850 mm and a designed speed of 1,600 m/min. It primarily uses bamboo pulp to produce high-end household paper, with an annual production capacity exceeding 20,000 tons per machine.
On May 13, the new crescent-shaped toilet paper machine—model 2850-1400 (No. 5)—supplied by Baoding Changda Paper Machinery Co., Ltd. to Henan Huajie Sanitary Products Co., Ltd. was successfully started up and began producing paper. The machine has a web width of 2850 mm and a designed speed of 1400 m/min, with a single-machine capacity capable of exceeding 20,000 tons per year.
In late May, the new crescent-shaped paper machine 3550-1300, manufactured by Baoding Changda Paper Machinery Co., Ltd. for Baoding Hengxin Paper Industry, was successfully started up and put into operation. The paper machine has a web width of 3,550 mm, a designed speed of 1,300 m/min, and a single-machine capacity of up to 20,000 tons per year.
On May 30, the PM3 technical upgrade project of Zhangzhou Yingsheng Paper Co., Ltd. was successfully started up and smoothly produced paper. The paper machine has a net paper width of 3,400 mm, and after the upgrade, its operating speed reaches 450 meters per minute. It primarily uses waste paper as raw material to produce high-grade coated whiteboard paper, with an annual production capacity of approximately 200,000 tons.
II. Investment Status
Proposed
On May 6, the Development and Reform Bureau of Muchuan County issued a public notice regarding the environmental impact assessment for the papermaking expansion project of Muchuan Hefeng Paper Industry Co., Ltd. The company plans to invest 135 million yuan to build a new production line with an annual capacity of 35,000 tons of wiping paper, along with associated supporting facilities.
On May 7, the Environmental Protection Bureau of Laibin City released the first public notice of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report for the technical renovation project of the 60,000-ton-per-year packaging paper production line of Guangxi Xiangzhou Qinglong Paper Industry Co., Ltd.
On May 7, the 50,000-ton-per-year high-end household paper and post-processing project of Guangxi Zhongsheng Paper Industry Co., Ltd. received formal approval. The project will be carried out in two phases. Each of the first and second phases is planned to produce 25,000 tons of high-end household paper annually, along with corresponding post-processing lines for soft tissue and facial tissues.
On May 11, the Yanzhou Branch of the Jining Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment in Shandong Province announced the project of Shandong Taiyang Paper Co., Ltd., which involves the annual production of 37,000 tons of new specialty paper-based materials.
In mid-May, the 2024 list of key cultural industry projects for Suzhou City, released by the Office of the Leading Group for Cultural Industry Development of Suzhou City, prominently featured Jiulong Paper’s project to produce 1 million tons per year of specialty cultural paper.
On May 22, Liwen Paper signed a 10-billion-yuan investment agreement with the People's Government of Guigang City for a full-industry-chain pulp and paper project.
On May 28, the website of the Kunming Municipal Development and Reform Commission released the review opinions on the energy-saving report for the 500,000-ton-per-year recycled paper production project for color-printed packaging by Yunnan Kunming Fuxing Resource Recycling Technology Co., Ltd. Phase I will have a capacity of 140,000 tons per year, Phase II 160,000 tons per year, and Phase III 200,000 tons per year; in Phase I, pulp production will be 133,000 tons per year, in Phase II 152,000 tons per year, and in Phase III 158,000 tons per year.
On the morning of May 31, the Management Committee of Guigang Industrial Park, Guigang JinTou Group, and Chongqing Gang’ao Jiaxiang Paper Co., Ltd. held a signing ceremony for the “130,000-ton-per-year household paper project” at the conference room of Guigang JinTou Group.
